Hello, I’m Deb… Welcome to The Gift of Yoga

Yoga, vedic chanting and meditation that begins with you

I’m Deb Robertson. I began my yoga vocation in 2000, and over the past two decades I have interwoven nine years of formal study to qualify in Yoga Teaching, Yoga Therapy and Vedic Chanting. Trained in the tradition of T Krishnamacharya, I am grateful for the wisdom, insight and knowledge imparted by my teachers and mentors. What I am able to provide comes from my study, my relationships and the discipline I have developed over many years: this underpins everything I offer, which includes:

My areas of expertise are interconnected and complementary allowing me to bring a depth of understanding, care and knowledge to the design and undertaking of classes, courses and consultations.

The Yoga Teaching I offer makes it possible for people of all ages and stages of life to enjoy yoga’s benefits. I can assist you to develop a personal self-care practice to do in your own time, each day.

For care-seekers, Yoga Therapy connects body, mind and spirit. I provide an individual, personalised holistic approach that reduces disturbances, allowing movement from a state of agitation, pain or suffering to a place of wellbeing, acceptance and tranquillity.

Vedic Chanting connects us to the heart, expands the body, mind and soul and cleanses the senses. It brings a lightness of body and freedom from doubts. Physiologically, chanting helps in reducing stress, and improving breathing capacity, digestion and speech defects.

When we are distracted by our suffering, it can be hard to turn the mind to Meditation and Relaxation, let alone learn how to meditate. But there are many techniques and relaxation practices that can help to anchor our mind, reduce anxiety, manage chronic pain, relax our breathing and reduce depression.

As a lifelong asthmatic, I know what it is to struggle for breath. Although originally drawn to yoga for pain management, it was linking breath to movement that transformed my health. In our Breathing practices we observe the natural breath, follow the exhale, and then gently lengthen and smooth the components; the breathing should never be forced. Together we can find what works for you.

Beyond the Body: Mentoring for yoga teachers picks up where your training left off. I can assist yoga teachers to develop their skills of observation and modification, and to feel more confident teaching students with different needs while keeping yoga relevant, safe, effective and helpful.

My practice is situated in Williamstown in Melbourne’s west and I welcome inquiries and collaboration. When my group classes resume, they will be held at St Joseph’s Convent on the waterfront in Williamstown or at Think Focus Act in Newport.
